Drive-Through eCycling Event Deemed a Success!

The first drive-through eCycling event on October 25, 2006 was deemed a success! The lane outside our office at 101 E. Michigan St. in Indianapolis was humming steadily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with people dropping off recyclable computer equipment. We also collected an odd VCR or TV.

Collection stats:

  • We received three truckloads of equipment.
  • A truck from Kokomo also dropped off six pallets of equipment directly to Virtual Scavengers Project.
  • 18,000 pounds per truck plus 7,200 pounds from Kokomo equals 61,200 pounds of recyclable equipment collected! That is over 60,000 pounds of equipment that won’t be dumped in a landfill – 85 percent will be reused and 15 percent will be recycled in the most environmentally responsible way.
  • We received about 50% monitors, 30% computers and the remaining 20% was a mix of printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, phones, TVs, VCRs and networking equipment.
  • Oddest donation: a bread machine!

Thanks to all who contributed as well as all our volunteers that worked tirelessly unloading donations from vehicles and sorting equipment. Special thanks to Norm Brown for donating the forklift!

We hope to make this an annual event – watch this space and your local paper for more details.

In the meantime, if you have other equipment that you’d like to recycle in the most environmentally friendly manner, please take your donations to the Virtual Scavengers Project or Goldsmith Group, Inc.
